You really have to be careful with some 80’s properties including He-Man. The same is true for the UK Mini World picture books which are often mislabeled as comics and Battle for Gobotron with record book. Gobots Escape to Planet Earth is NOT a comic even though sellers advertise it as one.

Machine Men is an Aussie Gobots catalog with comics. The rare library edition for this book which is hardbound and has a white border. Still this is one to own in high grade only unless you can find… Also the cereal comics are clearly comic books. Continuity wise it comes after The Challenge. Because it is a Golden book and there is no way to determine if it predates the cereal release so I cannot say that it is a first appearance. All can be tough for American reader to find.Īll of the Gobots mags are very hard to find in high grade.Ĭan you believe this puppy was illustrated by Ditko! This is especially true of their first comic appearance, a three part series only released in Cookie Crisp cereal in the 80’s. As far as comics go there is a short supply of appearances but if you like a good hunt there are a few publications that will make you pull out your hair if you try to find them. Even after their absorption into Transformers mythos they just don’t get any real respect. The much maligned Gobots still remain a sort of joke. But if collecting the Gobots is your thing or if this article helps spark an interest these are my recommendations. The Gobots popularity fizzled quick when the Transformers came out. You definitely won’t find anything as large as the Transformers and for good reason. As for comics the Gobots have an interesting yet limited history.

Trust me though, there are always some gems in lines like this especially ones with a large enough catalog. Decades later most people who know of them do not look back kindly. Based on Japanese toys called Machine Robo, these transforming toys predated the Transfomers US release and were surprisingly quite popular back in the early 80’s.
